Do RC model airplanes have a function which will make the plane return to the remote control transmitter?

I was just wondering, when novices are starting off with remote control airplanes(which have a large range), and they have trouble landing it, is there any option to have the plane return to the remote control transmitter and land it ? this is assuming this is some kind of high end model airplane which has a sensor to judge the altitude

PS: I dont know anything about RC airplanes, was just wondering if anything like what i mentioned exists

The army supplies some of its soldiers with small rc airplanes that fly by themselves. They have small cameras to give soldiers a view from above, and are guide by GPS.

I have never seen anything like you described for sale, but it is definitely possible.
