NightFlyyeraPult Plane Catapult by Dave, is Self Contained.

50 feet launches into the air with jets and 75 feet high launches with the firebird (with no motors running) is quite sufficient.

There is no need for OVERKILL on the tightness of the rubber.
I launch my F-35 EDF jet and my Firebird Phantom, using my launcher design from the '70-80's.
The release mechanism is from the Jetapult however, I have come up with a newer and better design that works great for all RC model planes totally self contained and for wheeled aircraft or not.

Since my unit is completely self contained, it does not have to have the rubber band staked to the ground!
That means the Angle of Attack can be much greater.

These light weight foam jets from Nitroplanes launch beautifly from it.

The launcher can be instantly adjusted to aim into the wind at the time of launch.

My USS Midway experience helped with the design of the hook and catapult system.

So if you live where there is no place to take your airplane off, you can always make one of these and launch it from the roof of your car.

Thanks for watching
Dave

send that to myth …
send that to myth busters.

enchantedgoose @ 3:43 am

haha! that's …
haha! that's awesome. now i wanna know what would happen if you attached an rc plane to a real aircraft carrier launcher. i'm guessing it would destroy the plane in 15 feet.

That is what my …
That is what my magazine article was all about….a full size one. But no smooth lakes around here, so we have to improvise. LOL.

NightFlyyer @ 3:43 am

We tried to do it …
We tried to do it in Cal. It was too big and too much to maintain.

NightFlyyer @ 3:43 am

Thank you.
Thank you.

Thanks very kindly for your great comments. We are all learning for sure, as each flight is a lesson.

NightFlyyer @ 3:43 am

With the higher …
With the higher angle of attack I can run almost full power, but these light weight planes can almost hover. I had a full hook on my gas planes to hold the planes, but I am keeping it simple on this. It is hard to argue with success and it is way more fun to launch them like a slingshot, and fun is what it is all about.

thats exactly what …
thats exactly what i was thinking haha

man you beat me too …
man you beat me too it, i was just gonna say that, better yet an rc aircraft carrier , you can use a servo to drop the rod that holds the ring :)

bobebobebob @ 3:43 am

its an aircraft …
its an aircraft carrier! you should build a model aircraft carrier around it and set it out on a lake

rctestflight @ 3:43 am

thats so cool!!!
thats so cool!!!

aggressiveman666 @ 3:43 am

get a thermal …
get a thermal glider and launch it from there! instead of doing a discus throw or towing, or any other matter, just strap it on and let it rip

WAGAHEHEH @ 3:43 am

you are my idol!
you are my idol!

brettwrb @ 3:43 am

I realize that, but …
I realize that, but from what I can see, you can't go full power on your launchpad without the plane going forward. If you were able to go full power before releasing the catapult I would think it would be more effective. Carrier planes go to full power long before launch, can you do that with yours?

NightFlyyer @ 3:43 am

Make one and make a …
Make one and make a video.

NightFlyyer @ 3:43 am

Yes, that would be …
Yes, that would be great, like a carrier, but carriers have 100 feet of space below the end to the water, to be able to allow the plane to sink a bit and climb. Can't do that on the ground. My launcher simulates a very good hand launch and works every time. Thanks for the comments.
