what engine to put into an rc airplane?

hi. i have a phoenix models funstar 3d airplane. i was thinking of an engine to put in it. i have a thunder tiger .40 two stroke engine. would this have enough power for the plane? Im not wanting to do lots of aerobatics. i like to fly rc airplanes relaxed. Note: the plane's wingspan is 52.7" and it weighs about 4.4 pounds. any advice?

The .40 is much too powerful. This will bore holes in the sky, if the wings stay on.

A .20 would give you a quieter much more relaxed airframe.

I am sure someone is going to tell you this is not the R/C section. There are a lot of questions about R/C. Maybe Y/A should consider opening a section for that.

Sorry about the guy that says this section isn't about RC. I'd like to remind him that it isn't about travel problems or military armament either. Or education for that matter. RC has as much place in this forum as any other aviation related question. I'd fly the Phoenix Funstar with a .40, but you have to remember there is more than one position on that throttle stick. In a short time you will want the power. The power can make up for a lot of dumb moves too. I think Tower Hobbies recomends a .46!

Good luck, and enjoy.

A .40 2-stroke would be fine for a 4.4lb funstar. It would let you do moderate aerobatics, but if you want to fly scale, or relaxed, you don't have to use all the power available. The funstar has large control surfaces and will be quite responsive, so I hope you have a radio that has low rates.
